NVC men’s golf tied for seventh place at 3C2A state tournament

Napa Valley College opened the California Community College Athletic Association Men's Golf State Championships on Sunday, posting a 309-team score in first-round play at SilverRock Resort's Arnold Palmer Classic Course, in La Quinta, CA.

The Storm, the Big 8 Conference North Division champion for the third year in a row, is tied for seventh place going into Monday's second and final round.

The 3C2A state tournament is a two-day, 36-hole event, played at SilverRock Resort, a par-72, 7,239- yard layout.

The field consists of nine teams – four from Northern California, five from Southern California – and 68 players. Additional individual players from teams that did not qualify are entered in the season-ending event.

For Napa Valley, Peyton Alexander is in a tie for 17th place after posting a 2-over-par 74.

Will Hutton is tied for 23rd place after carding a 4-over-par 76.

Ian Hall is tied for 37th place after shooting a 7-over-par 79.

It's an all-freshmen team for Napa Valley, which advanced to the state tournament by finishing second at the 3C2A-North Regional Championships at Bayonet Golf Course, May 3-4, in Seaside (Monterey County). The Storm was awarded the second-place team trophy and players were presented with individual silver medals at the NorCal tournament.

Also, playing at state for Napa Valley:

* Lawrence Collins, tied for 43rd place, 80.

* Josh Hull, tied for 49th place, 82.

* Dominic Taverrite, tied for 59th place, 85.

Led by Coach Bob Freschi, the Storm has won six tournaments during the season.

For Napa Valley, earning All-Big 8 Conference honors were Hutton, Collins and Hall, Freschi announced.

College of the Desert-Palm Desert took the first-round lead, with a 288-team score.

In second place is Victor Valley College-Victorville, with a 293-team score.

In third place is College of the Canyons-Santa Clarita, with a 294-team score.

Sierra College-Rocklin is in fourth place, with a 297-team score.

In fifth place is Reedley College, with a 299-team score.

In sixth place is San Joaquin Delta College-Stockton, with a 305-team score.

Tied with Napa Valley is Ventura College (309) and Orange Coast College-Costa Mesa (309).

Individually, Anthony Nilson of Canyons and Julian Rombouts of Reedley are tied for the lead, each with 3-under-par 69's.
