The Napa Valley College women's golf team placed third at the 2025 California Community College Athletic Association-Northern California Regional Championships in Madera on Monday.

The Storm was awarded the tournament's third-place trophy as a Top-3 finisher and also qualified to play in next week's 3C2A State Championships, Nov. 16 and 17, at the River Course at Alisal, in Solvang (Santa Barbara County).

"We just squeaked by, did what we had to do to get a trophy and qualify for the states," Storm coach Bob Freschi said. "They're really fired up. They're so excited after they earned it."

The Storm's top individual placers were Libby Webb, who shot 82-83 – 165 for a 13th-place finish, and Kylee Scroggs, who shot 80-88 – 168 for a 14th-place finish.

Webb, a sophomore, and Scroggs, a freshman, were each named to the All-Big 8 Conference team.

Napa Valley, which finished in third place during the Big 8 Conference season, posted team scores of 337 on Sunday and 360 on Monday for a 697 total for the two-day, 36-hole event.

Madera Golf and Country Club is a par-73, 5,520-yard layout.

"I know the pin placements on Monday were much tougher than the previous day, and I think most of the scores went up (Monday)," said Freschi. "With our team, fatigue might have been a factor; just a couple of big scores that we had trouble with on a few holes. A couple of our players were feeling under the weather. They persevered and got through it. So, proud of them."

Reedley College took first place, posting team scores of 320 and 307 for a 627 total.

Placing second was Modesto Junior College, which shot 330-314 – 644.

Taking fourth place was Sierra College-Rocklin, which posted team scores of 338 and 373 for a 711 total.

The top-4 teams and six individuals who are not on those teams advance to the State Championships.

Sacramento City College (352-373 – 725) finished fifth, San Joaquin Delta College-Stockton (373-372 – 745) was sixth, and Taft College (400-402 – 802) was seventh.

"The first day they had some jitters, as there were a lot of spectators, and they're playing for a NorCal championship," said Freschi. "And then the second day, we hung in there and did what we had to do to capture third place. They played well."

Also, placing for Napa Valley:

* Hazel Zastrow, 19th-place, 86-93 – 179.

* Hanna Ruggles, 24th place, 89-99 – 188.

* Rylie Olmo, tied for 27th place, 97-97 – 194.
* Loret Osorio, tied for 30th place, 100-96 – 196.

"Loret played well. Hazel played well both days," said Freschi. "It was a total team effort, really pulling for one another. They were excited, but they were also drained. It was a little warm on both days."

Napa Valley played a practice round on Saturday.

"They played 54 holes in three days. That's a lot for us, and I think it affected us on the back nine (Monday)," said Freschi.

"I'm just proud of the commitment they made, living in the moment, and the ability to commit to what's next and try to do our best of scoring on that hole.

"They've been just a wonderful team all year. The commitment level and just the camaraderie we have on the team paid off (Monday)."

Team awards are presented to the top-3 teams. The top-6 individual finishers earn All-NorCal honors.

Faith Hamstreet of Taft was the individual low medalist. Hamstreet shot 73-72 – 145.

Taking second place was Sydney Streeter of Modesto, 76-71 – 147.

NVC finished in eighth place at the 2025 3C2A Women's State Preview, a two-day, 36-hole event, Oct. 12-13, at the River Course at the Alisal, in Solvang (Santa Barbara County). The event had a field of 11-teams.
